I Am Reaching Out to My Photographer Friends

I am using a borrowed camera right now because mine is lost because of the move. Why are these pictures so hazy and just flat out horrible? The camera is a Kodak EasyShare C743 and I just used the auto function. It's basically out of the box and didn't change out the settings. Help!
